Are discarded kettles suitable for reuse?
This study examined whether discarded kettles that would normally be recycled are suitable for reuse in the thrift store. Kettles are interesting for thrift stores, because they sell very quickly there. In addition, kettles are easy to test and clean. So there is a great potential profit to be made.
For 2 weeks, kettles were sorted and kept separate at the regional sorting center Schiphol Meerlanden. This resulted in one big bag full of kettles, a total of 96 pieces. These were transported to the thrift store De Arm in Utrecht. The kettles were sorted there, their appearance assessed, parts were collected and the kettles were registered. Ultimately, 12 of the 96 kettles still worked and were found suitable for a second life.
In this study you can read the project steps, conclusion and recommendations for possible follow-up research.
